Golf is not a new sport of India. It was introduced during British Time, with many Golf Courses that came into the country centuries ago. After Britishers left India, in 1955, Indian Golf Union was formed in New Delhi. India has been handling golf interests since 1829. Since then, many golf courses have been organized and today we have 220 Golf Courses in all. Around 30 of them are there which plays professionally and 15 are signature golf courses. Golf tourism is growing at 9.3 percent a year and about 1.6 million people travel for golf tourism every year. Jammu and Kashmir, Chandigarh, Delhi/NCR have most of the signature courses whereas Gujarat, Pune, Coimbatore, Bangalore and Cochin have lucrative Golf courses.
